Staff and students invited to the FernUniversität International Day on 26th October

Get ready for the FernUniversität in Hagen International Day, which will be held on Wednesday the 26th of October from 11.30 to 14.00 in the Ellipse (Building 3) on the main campus.  The open invitation was made by Prof. Uwe Elsholz, the FernUniversität in Hagen’s Vice Rector for Internationalisation, Continuing Education and Transfer.  The University’s  Internationalisation Strategy of 2020 is centred on four objectives: (i) Institutional Cooperation and Networks (ii) Distance Education and Digitalisation (iii) Research Without Borders and (iv) International Support Structures.  Visitors to the International Day can expect to learn not only about the strides taken to address these core areas, but also of the milestones successfully reached.

Desirée Kampmeier is looking forward to welcoming both staff and students at the International Day

Speaking in the run-up to the event, Desirée Kampmeier of the FernUniversität International Office said, “We would like to inform the university community about the FernUniversität’s internationalisation activities, about how diverse and multifaceted they are and also about the many support services available.”   Virtual mobility and virtual exchange programmes; robust research networks; translation services; conversation clubs and much else besides, the International Office is busy on any given day, and the range of projects will be on display at the 26 October event.

Amongst those showcasing their international activities will be the studyFIT English Learning Support Project.  “We have almost a year of progress to look back on,” says Project Manager Dr Prue Goredema.  “We have a thousand students testing out the Altissia language learning platform, and the analytics generated there are an indication of the learning proclivities of our diverse learners.   The curious are welcome to visit the English Learning Support booth to find out more.   In addition, our presence at the International Day will afford us the opportunity to give visitors a sneak peek at the English Language Bridging courses that are currently in development.”

The two-and-a-half-hour event will consist of poster presentations, one-on-one discussions and a round of talks on experiences and best practices in the field of internationalisation.  Finger food will be served throughout, so do drop by the FernUniversität International Day on Wednesday the 26th of October, from 11.30 to 14.00 at the Hagen campus.
