International exchange at the Erasmus+ Staff Week

Over coffee and cake in the splendid Villa Bechem on Tuesday, the international guests mingled with FernUni staff

From 12 – 16 June 2023, the FernUniversität’s International Office hosted eleven  academics from Finland, Latvia, Spain and Turkey at the annual International Staff Week.   The Erasmus+ funded gathering offers many opportunities for higher ed workers from abroad to exchange ideas, network and get to know the FernUniversität in Hagen.

An action-packed programme awaited the visitors, including a visit to the Logistics Centre, a studio tour, various presentations from academics and administrators as well as an afternoon of socialising with staff at the FernUniversität’s summer party, which was held on Thursday the 15th.

The visit to the FernUniversität’s video studio on Tuesday generated much enthusiasm: “We too would like to invest even more in online lectures and eLearning overall,” commented a participant from Riga.  “The technology here is indeed impressive, and the Hagen studio is exemplary,” she added.

Discussions about current opportunities and challenges at the individual universities alongside the personal exchange dimension make the International Staff Week an enriching experience for the participants: “It’s really great to be able to spend an entire week with colleagues from other countries. I’ll be taking home lots of new ideas and great contacts,” said a visitor from Turkey.

In addition to the Turkish universities Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi; Gazi Üniversitesi and Adana Alparslan Türkes Bilim ve Teknoloji Üniversitesi; the participants of the International Staff Week work at the Open University of Jyväskylä, Finland; the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya in Spain and the EKA University of Applied Sciences in Latvia.
