A farewell function at the FernUniversität

The FernUniversität’s outgoing Rector, Prof.  Ada Pellert

On Wednesday 27 November 2024, hundreds of FernUniversität staff members met from 2-4pm at the Hagen campus to bid outgoing Rector Prof.  Ada Pellert farewell and to wish her well in her future endeavours.

Professor Pellert has been Rector of the FernUniversität in Hagen since March 2016 and Vice President of EADTU, the European Association of Distance Learning Universities, since February 2023. She was also Chair of the Digital University NRW cooperation platform from October 2016 to June 2023 and a member of the Federal Government’s Digital Council from August 2018 to November 2021.

In a room packed with well-wishers at the Hagen farewell event, Pellert expressed her gratitude for the connections she has fostered over the years.  She spoke with pride at having had a hand in moulding the university into an autonomous beacon on the German educational landscape that nevertheless maintains strong links with other institutions throughout Germany and worldwide.

Amongst those who took to the stage to share their best wishes was Prof Stefan Stürmer, the FernUniversität’s Vice-Rector for Teaching and Learning, the mayor of Hagen and various representatives from university admin.  A gifted group of staff members played a song that had been especially penned for Pellert, a catchy tune that praised her accomplishments during her tenure at Germany’s largest university.

Afterwards, guests mingled over coffee and cake, catching up with their colleagues from other departments.

In December Pellert will take up the reins as Rector of Klagenfurt University in Austria.
