If you’re keen to refresh or improve your English but don’t have the time or money for formal lessons, we just might have a solution for you. We are looking for 1000 volunteers to try out a web-based language learning application. Once signed up for the study, you will be able to access the application around the clock and free of charge on a desktop computer, tablet or other mobile device. We will be gathering information on FernUniversität students’ English language competence and engagement, and the study will enable us to determine how effective the learning application is in addressing your learning needs.
The ideal participant will be available for at least one semester between March 2022 and December 2023. You may be wondering whether there’s a catch, and the answer is no; not really. Sure, we will occasionally ask you to fill out a survey or participate in a focus group discussion, but it’s all for the greater good. Once we have a clearer view of our students’ language learning needs, we will be in a better position to devise support strategies for those who need advanced English skills to master specific modules or to read and write research papers.
Please bookmark this website, for over the next few months we will use it to update you on the progress of the study, and we will feature interviews with FernUniversität lecturers from all five faculties who, for various reasons, use English as a medium of instruction.
