The FernUniversität in Hagen is involved in two significant projects related to artificial intelligence in education: AI.EDU Research Lab and IMPACT.
AI.EDU Research Lab
The AI.EDU Research Lab is a collaborative project between the FernUniversität in Hagen and the German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI). The project aims to explore the potential of AI methods in university teaching and learning. Key aspects of the AI.EDU Research Lab include:
- Developing AI applications to support student learning
- Creating recommendation systems for metacognitive skills development
- Exploring knowledge-based expert systems and education data mining
IMPACT is multi-university initiative aimed at implementing AI-based feedback and assessment in higher education, including:
- Providing automated text analysis and personalised student feedback
- Implementing AI methods such as chatbots and assessment systems
- Ensuring interoperability with learning management platforms
- Utilising open-source software solutions
