It’s all systems go for the FernUniversität’s Campus Festival, which will this year be held on Saturday 20th August from 5pm until late. Festival fanatics are urged to head over to Rote Platz, the square right at the centre of the main campus on Universitätsstraße in Hagen. With a backdrop of summer sunshine, live music and free refreshments, the long-awaited festival promises to be a night to remember for staff, students and guests alike.
The diverse programme has something for everyone. Meteorologist and TV weatherman Karsten Schwanke will give a talk entitled “Climate change – THE challenge for our society” followed by a Q&A session. Although the talk will be simultaneously livestreamed on Zoom (Passcode 55594827), it’s best that you be there in person to get in on the other festivities that will take place.
Good vibes
Soundpark, a home-grown Hagen band, will grace the main stage in the evening. Serving as a stage warmer will be Rocks Crossing, a band known for their covers of rock classics from the 70s, 80s and 90s.
Second hand book sale
When the library cleans house, bookworms had better form a queue! On the side lines of the festival, the University Library will be selling not only some old titles that have not been borrowed for a while, but also other books donated by well-wishers.
“We’ll have a wide assortment of books on sale,” says FernUniversität Librarian
Claudia Schneider. “Scientific and general academic titles form the backbone of the stock to be sold, but there’ll also be novels and various non-fiction works. I’ve even seen some recipe books that are looking for a new home,” she adds.
It turns out that the University Library collects books year-round and holds such sales periodically, so students would do well to keep an eye open for library news. Considering that hundreds of people are expected to descend on campus on the 20th, hosting the latest book sale at the Campus Festival seemed to be a no-brainer.
