Now that the summer semester is about to start, don’t you think it’s time you looked into refreshing your English skills?
Webinar: Wednesday 5 April 2023 at 5 pm
If it’s been many a year since you opened an English grammar book, you might want to start by trying out the free language learning platform Altissia. “We are releasing a further thousand licences to enable even more FernUni students to experiment with that mode of language learning,” says English Learning Support Project Manager Dr Prue Goredema. Signing up is as easy as clicking on this link; however, those who want a detailed preview of how to get the best out of the application are invited to a live webinar, hosted by Altissia, on Wednesday 5 April 2023, 5-6pm. There is no registration required.
The English Café: Weekday evenings
The Zoom-based English Café is a forum for students to drop by, chit chat in English and relieve the burdens of distance education. In the past semester we had guest speakers enthralling us on all manner of topics – from research into civilising processes in mid-20th century Ghana; the opportunities FernUni students have to study abroad and the differences between American and British varieties of English. Oh, and that’s not counting our mixer with other language learners enrolled at the Institut Obert de Catalunya, Spain. Find out more about the English Café by clicking here.
A bridge over troubled waters
The first of the highly anticipated English bridging courses is set to be launched in mid-April. If you are a student of the Humanities and Social Sciences (or don’t mind the themes) this course just might be for you. The link will be released via studyFIT and the English Learning Support website, so please bookmark the page.
Make this the summer you get your English up to scratch!
