Exam Evolution: How large language models are redefining assessments in higher ed

Don’t miss Niklas Lettow’s lecture on large language models

Make a date with The English Café this coming Monday, 11 November from 6-7pm, when Niklas Lettow, a Research Assistant at the FernUniversität Chair for Business Administration will teach us a thing or two about how university assessments can be generated using large language models (LLMs).

What on earth are these LLMs, you may wonder.  It seemed apt and fitting to go directly to the horses’ mouth, so I asked Perplexity AI for a definition:

Large language models are advanced artificial intelligence systems designed to understand and generate human-like text. They utilise deep learning techniques, particularly transformer architectures, and are trained on extensive datasets, often comprising petabytes (i.e. a whole lot!) of text data. This training allows LLMs to perform a wide range of natural language processing (NLP) tasks, including text generation, translation, summarisation and sentiment analysis.

You simply have to join us as Niklas Lettow walks us through the past, present and possible future applications of these large language models.  You need not register.  Just click on the Zoom link that is emblazoned all over this page at the appointed hour on Monday 11 November from 6-7pm.

Improve your listening and speaking skills, learn something new and meet your fellow students.
